All about Lash Lifts

THE ANSWERS YOU NEED

HOW DO LASH LIFTS WORK?

All lash lifts work in the same basic way, the disulfide bonds that form the natural shape of the lashes are broken then reconnected while on a form of the desired new shape to lock in the lift until the lashes grow out or shed (6-8 weeks).

ARE THERE DIFFERENT OPTIONS FOR THE NEW LASH SHAPE?

Yes!  There are so many different forms out there and we have most of them (forever collecting more).  We could fill multiple large  organizing boxes with the different options, and we have!  So how do we determine what to use?  We start the appointment by discussing the desired outcome, dramatic, subtle, curved, straight etc.  We then look at the eyeshape, lash length, direction of lash growth and use all of this information along with a lot of experience to choose which shape and size will give the desired outcome.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

The new shape is locked in for the life of the lash.  Over time the lift can appear to fall but this is due to new growth at the bases as well as natural shedding.  The average time to refresh the lift is at 6-8 weeks.

CAN I USE A GROWTH SERUM WITH MY LIFT?

Absolutely!  There is no problem using a growth serum with a lift but there are a few things that are good to be aware of.  There are two kinds of growth serums, some just support natural lash health and others contain prostaglandins like latisse or grandelash.  These are the ones that cause drastic and very noticeable lash growth.  These serums affect the natural growth cycle so you may find the lift sometimes lasts a shorter or longer time than average.  Abruptly stopping these serums can cause many lashes to shed all at once before the lashes eventually fall back into their natural cycle so it's best to taper off of them or just to be aware of this effect.

WHAT IF THE CURL DOESN'T LAST?

It happens, an under-processed lift can mean you leave with curled lashes but they fall within the next 24-48 hours.  While we check the progression of the process carefully this can still happen on a rare occasion of extra strong resistant lashes.  What to do?  Please contact us as soon as this is noticed and we will get you in as soon as possible for a revision and note that extra time is needed for future lifts.  We will always make it right!

HOW DO I CARE FOR MY LIFT?

For traditional lifts keep the lashes dry for at least 4 hours and for keratin 12.  We recommend avoiding lash curlers (won't need them) waterproof mascara and rubbing the lashes for everyone as these are damaging to natural lashes whether lifted or not.  The easy aftercare is one of the best parts of this service!

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TRADITIONAL AND KERATIN LASH LIFT?

Traditional lash lifts use ammonium thioglycolate to break down the disulfide bonds which is a more aggressive chemical and carries some risk of overprocessing and dehydration of the lashes.  Because it is stronger it is not used on the fragile ends of the lashes so the lift is created at the base.  This lift cannot be performed on already damaged lashes or repeated until there is sufficient new growth to avoid reprocessing the same areas more than once.  This is still a great option for strong lashes with no prior chemical treatment that do not need the tips reshaped.

Keratin lash lifts use cysteamine to break down the disulfide bonds which is much gentler on the lash and effectively eliminates the risk of overprocessing.  It can be used to reshape the entire lash root to tip and be repeated more often then a traditional lift.  It can help to repair overprocessed and over curled lashes.  Because it does not cause the lashes to be as fragile during the process it allows for more advanced detail oriented and restorative techniques such as keratin infusions and Korean glueless lifts.
